An amazing opportunity to travel the virgin jungle of the Mayas from the un-restored ruins of El Zotz to the largest Mayan city of all: Tikal.

On horseback or wandering beside packhorses through the environmentally protected biosphere you will see 100`s of bird and butterfly species, troops of howler and spider monkeys, snakes, scorpions and peccary.

¨Zotz¨ means bat in Mayan and this biotope was created to protect the thousands of bats that live in the cliff-caves deep in the rainforest. You’ll visit the escarpment at sunset in time to see the bats pour from their caves, a horizontal waterfall blackening the dusk and streaming out across the jungle while owls swoop and hunt amongst them.

Traveling towards Tikal and camping overnight in the jungle you have a real native and natural experience, an opportunity to witness the activities of creatures during both the night and day, and to take in incredible scenery.

Tikal translates toe ¨Where spirit voices are heard¨. These famous ruins are located in the middle of the Tikal National Park amid ceiba, zapote and mahogany trees where over 285 bird species reside. This is a perfectly balanced and designed tour, both friendly and informative. It’s eco tourism at its best and certainly should not be missed.

Departure to El Zotz is possible daily however it is recommendable to go with bigger groups in order to get the prices down.

We at Los Amigos try to work direct with local guides. We work independent from any agency. That`s why we can offer more options! I find the tours with the largest groups or the guides with the sharpest prices.

The tour to El Zotz includes a local guide, the guides assistant, pack horses, purified water, all breakfasts, lunch and dinner, entrance fee to Tikal, accomodation (hammock with mosquito net) and all transportation with minibus
