veggie philosophy
We offer a wide range of vegetarian food. Many people choose a vegetarian diet because it feels better to them and a vegetarian diet is much more healthy. We are not all vegetarian but try to cut down on meat for the following reasons…
25% of Central America’s forests have been destroyed for cattle grazing since 1960. Roughtly 1,000 species a year become extinct and after a few years the land is nutritionally used up and desertification begins.
A vegetarian menu can help reduce the growing shortage of fresh water on the planet. It takes 2500 gallon of water to produce one pound of meat, that is one hundred times more as what is used for a pound of wheat.
Last but certainly not least: By eating meat you support the powerful meat industry which causes a lot of pain and psychological damage to the animals. Cows would naturally live upto 20 years but are slaughtered after 5 years when their milk production begins to fall, chicks are debeaked without anaesthetic, 95% of poultry suffer injuries before being killed and 30% suffer broken bones. (If you want to inform yourself on the topic: we recommend watching the following documentaries: “Earthlings” and “Our daily bread.” You can watch them here in the Documentary Zone.)
Anyhow, we all do what we can because it is clear that the impact that humanity is having on our planet is
enormous. Eating meat every single day is just not very sustainable and healthy! Balance needs to be restored!
We feel we can make a small social and ecological contribution in this way. That is why we
encourage everyone to experiment now and then with vegetarian dishes! And trust me, you´ll like it!
