Yaxha can be considered the forgotten brother of Tikal. Which is really a shame because it truly is worth visiting!
Despite its smaller size, Yaxha is an impressive site, with many well-preserved structures like ball courts, plazas, and palaces and a rich history that spans over a thousand years. Yaxha is known for its stunning location near the shores of Lake Yaxha, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
Compared to Tikal, Yaxha is a more rustic and less developed site, with fewer amenities and less ongoing research but this, in turn, makes the site feel more natural, like you’re finding the ruins in the jungle yourself!
Learn about the history and culture of the Maya people and Yaxha itself. Our knowledgeable guides will navigate you through the complex network of ruins and will give you insight into the significance of the various structures, artifacts, and artworks you encounter. In addition to learning about the history and culture of Yaxha, your guide will also help you appreciate the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. Your guide may point out different species of plants and animals that are native to the area.
The highlight of the tour is the opportunity to climb to the top of some of the larger structures, such as Temple 216, which offers spectacular views of the surrounding jungle and lake!
